The Rare Dairy
Abbey Farm, Ash, Whitchurch, Shropshire, SY13 4DP
We are currently the only certified organic, rare breed Shetland calf-at-foot dairy on the British Isles. We also grow certified organic fruit, veg and herbs, make herbal potions and have a nature, wild food and herb school...with a Shepherd's hut retreat coming soon! The highest animal welfare and sustainability are at the heart of what we do - all of our packaging is either re-usable glassware or truly home compostable

What do you produce?
We produce organic, raw milk which we use to make kefir, yogurt, paneer and kefir ice cream. We have organic Shetland beef available and also grow a variety of organic fruit, veg and herbs. We use the herbs to make our own herbal potions
Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?
The milk and beef is from our own pasture fed cattle and the fruit, veg, herbs and wild food are all grown or gathered from the farm
Why do your customers love your products?
Our raw milk is delicious and nutritious...and guilt free. We only take surplus milk that the cows share with us - the calf always comes first! All of our produce is additive free and minimally processed - our raw milk is just strained through a paper filter and then bottled in glass bottles Customers love that we have the highest welfare standards and that we have as little environmental impact as possible
What are your best selling products?
Raw milk, yogurt and kefir are our best sellers from the dairy. The Elderberry Elixir and Herbal Creams are the most popular potions from the herbarium, with Jack by the Hedge being the most requested wild food. Our immune-boosting Shetland beef hot pot and herb dumplings always sell out fast!
Where can we buy your products?
We deliver within a 3 mile radius of the farm, on a Thursday and Friday. Customers are also welcome to collect directly from the farm
Are you open for visitors? If yes, what are your opening hours?
As our milk supplies are limited, we ask that any milk is pre-ordered to ensure availability when customers visit to collect
Do you sell wholesale? If so how do we get in touch with you to discuss further?
We supply certified organic wild food, fruit and veg to local restaurants - please email hello@the-rare.co.uk to discuss
Who's the best local producer near you (except you of course!)?
Bergitte - Herbs by Bee (herbal medicines & beverage teas), Joanne - Oakcroft Organic (veg boxes), Sophie - Pimhill Farm (organic oats & muesli) and Nicky - Border Honey (local honey)
