Baux and Bone

Baux and Bone 14 Archdale Road London SE22 9HJ

I established Baux and Bone in 2022. All items are made by me in my small studio in South East London, using traditional hand techniques. I worked for many years as an accessories designer for other brands and I am now using this experience and skills to develop Baux and Bone, only using ethically sourced vegetable tanned leathers which are a by-product of the farming industry and would otherwise go to waste if not used. Vegetable tanned leather uses natural ingredients in it's production and will last and improve with age, developing it's own 'patina'. Items are finished with brass hardware including buckles sourced from a foundry in the Midlands. The range consists of keyrings, bookmarks and newly launched dog collars and dog tags. All items can be personalised by me back in the studio.

What do you produce?

I make leather bookmarks, key rings, dog collars and dog tags from high quality, ethically sourced vegetable tanned leathers. All items can be personalised back in my studio.

Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?

I strive to source all of my materials and leather from the UK where possible. I predominantly use leather from one of the oldest leather merchants in England, with a small amount of my leather sourced from a tannery in Tuscany, bought via a UK company. The hardware I use is brass, sourced in England, including sand cast buckles made in a foundry in the Midlands, which holds a royal warrant.

Why do your customers love your products?

I offer an individual customer service where each item can be personalised with your own, or a loved ones embossed name, date, or phrase to create a unique piece. All my leather is sourced ethically and is a by-product of the farming industry, which would go to waste if not used. I will only use the highest quality vegetable tanned leather which is made using natural processes and products and will last and improve with age.

What are your best selling products?

The heart keys rings!

Where can we buy your products?

Customers can currently buy via instagram or Etsy. I am also showing my product at markets in South East London, please follow me on instagram for details of where I will be next. My own website will be launching in the next few months.

Are you open for visitors? If yes, what are your opening hours?

I am not open for visitors but please contact me by direct message on instagram if you would like to know more about my product, I love talking about the leather and techniques I use!

Have you received any awards / lovely recommendations from experts (don't be shy!)?

I recently won a Leathersellers award for a student grant to further my training in leather working skills. There is always something to learn.

Do you sell wholesale? If so how do we get in touch with you to discuss further?

I am open to wholesale orders. Please currently enquire through @bauxandbone

Who's the best local producer near you (except you of course!)?

So many makers, artists and designers! I love Nosey Candles, a new brand made just around the corner from me, and selling in Roullier White in SE22. And a producer of the most stunning fine art prints, artist Eleanor Street.
