Pollen & Press

Asenby, Thirsk. North Yorkshire YO7 3QN

Pollen and Press is a small scale apiary business producing small batch honey & beeswax candles alongside lino cut prints. Run by Rachel, a printmaker & Colin, a joiner. We are situated in a small village in the lovely North Yorkshire countryside, & are lucky to have our apiary in a small wooded area near our home. Each batch of honey is unique, dependent on what our bees have foraged on. Local crops such as oil seed rape & field beans along with strawberries & flowering hedgerows all add something special to each batch. We operate a gentle beekeeping practice & the honey is carefully gathered, filtered & then jarred by hand. Our hand poured beeswax candles are also produced in small batches, & just like the honey, the smell & colour can vary, depending on what pollen & nectar the bees have been foraging on.

What do you produce?

We produce small batch honey, minimally filtered & jarred by hand. All our candles are hand poured with 100% Yorkshire beeswax.

Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?

We have a small scale apiary in woodland near our home. In a good year, weather & forage dependent, our hives will produce honey in late spring which is generally a set honey, mainly due to the amount of oil seed rape that is grown locally. The summer honey tends to be runnier but all 'proper honey' will crystalise eventually. The beeswax for our candles is also from our own hives, and also from another local beekeeper based nearby.

Why do your customers love your products?

Our customers love the ethical nature of our business, giving wonderful feedback on the taste of our honey. Our customers love the gentle light & long burn of our candles which are often bought because they are non toxic & environmentally friendly, including the packaging.
