Ynys Twca

Trefdraeth, Bodorgan

Hand crafted, bespoke knives made from beautiful Anglesey wood, often spalted wood for the amazing patterns including hand sewn leather sheaths or wooden sayas. When I'm not in the workshop I run courses to teach both children and adults bushcraft and green woodworking skills. Great fun and a chance to learn new skills.

What do you produce?

A range of bespoke knives with handles made from Anglesey wood. All the wood is vacuum stabilised in the workshop to make the handles harder and tough wearing. My range includes bushcraft, whittling, kitchen, filleting and bread knives. The knives include either a hand sewn and hand dyed leather case or wooden sayas. I am also able to restore old tools by creating new handles and renovating the blades. I also make coffee scoops, spatulas and spoons, bread boards and other small wooden items. As well as making items I also run courses in bushcraft and green woodworking. These are for both adult and children. Junior Bushcraft Introduction to Bushcraft Learn to Whittle Green woodworking skills Primitive firelighting On these courses you may make a whistle, magic wand, spatula, butter knife, coffee bag peg amongst other items. If you have a group of friends or family and want to book a private course, please do get in touch.

Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?

Nearly all the wood I use to make my knife handles, coffee scoops and other items comes from Anglesey. The wood is sourced from local gardens, parks or estates where a tree has fallen due to storms or age or has been coppiced as part of woodland management. The same applies to the wood I use on the courses I run.

Why do your customers love your products?

Each item is unique as every piece of wood has a different grain and a different story. When a customer receives their item I include where the wood originated. Most of the knives I make are bespoke, so customers can customise their order. Some of the options are choosing the colour of the liner, the style of the mosaic pins and the type of case or sheath.

What are your best selling products?

The kitchen knives are the most popular item, but the coffee scoops are a close second!

Where can we buy your products?

You can book to come on one of my courses via my wife's website. Or to book a bespoke course just email me and we can make a plan. To order or buy one of my knives or wooden items, email or message me via Facebook or Instagram, @ynystwca. That's where you will be able to keep up with what's going on.

Are you open for visitors? If yes, what are your opening hours?

No bricks and mortar shop I'm afraid.

Do you sell wholesale? If so how do we get in touch with you to discuss further?

Not at the moment

Who's the best local producer near you (except you of course!)?

Beeswax Fabric Wraps - My wife's business!

For anyone visiting your area what's your "must see" local place?

The two places where I hold courses are great to visit. Coed Parc Mawr on Anglesey is a lovely place to walk and spot red squirrels. Snowdonia Donkeys in Tregarth near Bangor are open on Sundays between 11-3pm
