I make handmade brooms in the Appalachian, Shaker and European styles - each one unique, using old world, heritage craft methods. My heirloom quality brooms are meant to be used and with proper care, will last decades! I source sustainable and compostable materials locally here in the West Country as well as Wales and Scotland. Founder Jamie Dun is a self taught broom maker and member of the Heritage Crafts Association. A native Montanan born to a ranching family - the cycles of the seasons and a life long appreciation for flora and fauna and land based craft is in her soul. Bringing this unusual, magical and endangered heritage craft to the UK is a joy.

What do you produce?

I make handmade brooms and brushes in the European, Appalachian and Shaker styles using old world heritage methods (no machinery nor electricity) and a plant fibre called broomcorn (sorghum). I also use arenga and Tampico, which are also plant fibres but softer and better for delicate surfaces. I make traditional brushes like vegetable brushes, pot scrubbers and cake testers, to hand brooms and whisks for smaller jobs in the kitchen, hearth and altar to full sized cobwebber, kitchen and barn brooms. Children’s brooms and wedding brooms are popular too! Each is a work of art but meant to be used. Utilitarian folk art!

Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?

Our hazel handles are sourced and harvested sustainably with a coppicer who works in the old ways in the Forest of Dean and surrounding woodlands in Gloucester. Our antler and bone handles are naturally shed and ethically foraged in the highlands of Scotland and our driftwood handles are found on the beaches of Wales. The broomcorn is currently imported from North America and Turkey while we actively look for a reliable British source. The twines are produced in Lancashire and otherwise sourced locally.

My customers love the look and feel of these brooms. They are a natural and sustainable alternative to the plastic and metal brooms available on the high street. My brooms are heirloom quality and with proper care will outlast you! My customers appreciate these brooms are functional, unusual, beautiful and artful and rare in the UK.

What are your best selling products?

My hand brooms are by far the most popular: they are perfect for smaller spaces in the office, art studio, kitchen counters, potting sheds, camper vans, as well as for magical ritual use. Interestingly, I’ve had orders for custom wedding brooms lately and they are so fun to make! What a fantastic ritual and gift for the lucky pair!

Bristol has so much to offer, but I’d say a great spot to see quintessential Bristol is our harbour side - whether from a ferry or a paddle board, don’t miss the SS Great Britain, Underfall Yard, the M Shed, The Water Shed, the Arolfini plus all the gorgeous pubs and restaurants!
