Hello, I'm Jamie Dun.
I was born in Montana to a ranching family and have made the UK my home since 2007. My creative background was in fashion styling, visual merchandising management and design with fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom in the US. Why brooms? I am asked this often and the simple answer is that I wanted to buy a handmade Shaker style broom for my quirky period home and could not find one in the UK that was not imported and/or mass produced. I wanted something special and unusual that would last for years. The cost of importing a handmade broom from North America doubles the price thanks to customs and tax, so I decided to make one myself. Once I started to research broom making an entire world of heritage crafting and broom craft was revealed. There is so much to know and learn about brooms - methods of making, materials, history, farming, mythology and lore - how widely styles and materials vary across the world - and how similar they are. All for the simple broom. Broom design possibilities are endless - they can be more than just a common household tool and are a perfect gift for that person who has everything! Brooms can be traditional folk art, an unusual talking point on display next to your hearth or used as magical tools for ritual work (so far not able to make them fly though experiments continue). Both sides of my family are country people - we come from a long line of farmers, ranchers, artists and musicians. Expressing myself through a land based craft resonates deeply and feeds my soul. I hope to make my ancestors proud and your living space just a little more beautiful and interesting.
