St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company

St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company Falside Farm Pittenweem Anstruther KY10 2RT

We are a family-owned artisan cheesemaker located on our farm in the beautiful coastal region of Fife, Scotland. We produce traditional farmhouse cheeses using milk from our own herd of Friesian-Holstein cows, which graze right here on the farm. Our cheeses capture the unique flavour of this region, and our traditional cheesemaking methods preserve the natural qualities of our fresh, raw milk.

What do you produce?

We produce a range of handmade, small-batch cheeses, including our signature St Andrews Farmhouse Cheddar, a rich and flavourful cheese with a characteristic tang, which is aged to perfection. Our crumbly white Anster is named after the near by town of Anstruther and is similar in style to the traditional territorial crumblies - Cheshire & Caerphilly. Its complex flavour profile has a delightful citrus finish, complimented by its earthy aroma. We also smoke both of our cheeses on farm, using wood from Scottish Whisky barrels for our St Andrews Cheddar and oak chippings for Anster. Anster Red is our nod to flavour added for cheese lovers who like a little something different. Unlike other flavour added cheeses, Anster Red is made as a traditional farmhouse cheese using unpasteurised milk & animal rennet. We add annatto (a natural food colouring derived from a South American berry), to the milk to give the cheese a distinctive orange hue and mix fresh garlic & herb into the curds for a truly unique artisan cheese.

Where do you source your ingredients / materials from?

All our milk comes directly from our own Friesian-Holstein cows that graze on our farm’s pastures. This farm-to-dairy approach ensures full control over quality and allows our cheeses to reflect the true flavour of our land in the East Neuk of Fife.

Why do your customers love your products?

Our customers love our cheeses for their unique, full-bodied flavours and the care that goes into every batch. By using raw, unpasteurised milk and traditional methods, we create cheeses with a depth and complexity that brings them back to the basics of great taste. Embracing traditional methods means we are contributing to the preservation of the time honoured craft of cheesemaking. Studies have shown that the live bacteria in raw milk cheeses are incredibly good for maintaining and improving gut health too!

What are your best selling products?

Our St Andrews Farmhouse Cheddar is our most popular cheese, known for its rich, tangy profile and smooth texture. In the autumn & winter our Smoked Anster becomes increasingly popular with customers being particularly drawn to its mild, smoky flavour and crumbly texture.

Where can we buy your products?

Our cheeses are available direct from the dairy where customers can sample every flavour, at local markets, and through select independent retailers including farm shops, delis and food halls across the UK. You won't find us in the supermarkets but you can find us online on our own website and with on-line retailers who focus on quality artisan products.

Do you sell wholesale? If so how do we get in touch with you to discuss further?

Yes, we offer wholesale options. Please get in touch with us via our website or contact us directly at info@standrewscheese.co.uk to discuss options and pricing.

Who's the best local producer near you (except you of course!)?

We're big fans of East Neuk Orchards who produce the most delicious apple juice & apple juice blends using apples from their own orchard! Of course it marries perfectly with our cheeses and makes a delicious cocktail when mixed with Dorchadas Rum from East Neuk Spirits!
